Forgiving roadsides

“Forgiving roadsides” feature soft shoulders and gently sloped ditches that restrain a car in a controlled way. Moreover, all the installations on or alongside the road must be pliant and light. This is the modern way of thinking road design and traffic safety.
“Unforgiving roadsides” have dangerous guardrails and heavy, hard traffic masts.
Guardrails kill
Statistics from several European countries show that guardrails are
the cause of many terrible accidents.
A common problem is that vehicles rebound back into traffic after striking a guardrail. Other tragic accidents occur when vehicles are impaled on the end pieces of guardrails. There is also the danger of a guardrail acting as a ramp that launches a speeding vehicle up and out of the road (click here to see a video).
If a concrete construction, a tree or a steel mast is in line of the vehicle’s trajectory, the consequences will be dramatic.
Soft thinking
The need for dangerous and costly guardrails are reduced by the
choice of Lattix’s pliable and crash friendly traffic masts instead of
risky steel masts with slip bases.
